These are from a series of pen & ink and wash illustrations for a book by Philadelphia writer Sam Gridley, titled The Shame of What We Are. It’s a story of a young man from ages 5 to 18 and his difficulty navigating life with a dysfunctional family. One can feel sympathy for all the characters, though, in this funny, deeply moving novel.
